Can you ride a tandem??? – Well a blind person can!

When we recently advertised for volunteers in the Torfaen Town Crier we had a response from a very fit retired gent who owned a Tandem Bike and offered to take out blind people cycling. Well we advertised in our Newsletter and immediately had a response from Susan who lives in the Malpas Road area of Newport. Susan can only see shades of light but is VERY fit and was desperate to be able to ride. She had previously contacted local cycling clubs but no-one was able to help. Well this week we were able to arrange for Susan to ride with Alan. They started at our Resource Centre in Pontypool and went along the canal as far as Mamhilad and back!! One of our staff followed on her bike for a short way- but was unable to keep up!! Just goes to show- where there is a will- there is a way!!!

Huge thanks to Alan Chorlton and his tandem for giving up his time and for making the effort to make a difference in people’s lives.

If anyone else would like to participate please contace Paula Brewer on 01495 763650 and we we try to arrange it!
